Abuse or Negligence Warning Signs
Care home negligence or abuse is a very sensitive issue. That is why there are trained professionals who can determine if your suspicions are correct.
Because the elderly are vulnerable, they are placed in nursing homes and care homes for their own well being, they are there to be taken care of. Unfortunately this is not always the case and it is up to us to spot neglect no matter how small.
Signs below could be an indication of abuse or negligence
- Physical Injuries such as: Bruises, cuts, burns,lacerations
- Broken bones and fractures
- Weight Loss
- Sudden changes in behavior
- Nursing home not allowing you to see the patient on your own
- Broken Spectacles
- Signs of restraint or restriction
You may feel that the above can also be as a result of an innocent accident but they can be avoided by the care home ensuring simple guidelines are in place an maintained. Accidents can be prevented!
All patients should have their individual needs assessed and a care plan should be made and sustained by the nursing home.
The care home should have sufficient staff levels and at all times ensure that the patients needs are met. Needs may include:
Medication, Personal Hygiene assistance, Emotional support, prevention of bed sores, mobility aides, health and safety
